Why this space exists
Independent Social Infrastructure

@networkstewardship@community.jaz.co.uk
Social Web Commons is a shared working space for people building, operating, researching, and stewarding the open social web. It is for practitioners and allies working on federated, regional, language-based, and community-owned networks, as well as the trust and safety, governance, and infrastructure that support them.
People come here to share working knowledge, ask practical questions, compare approaches, and document lessons from real projects. Discussions may cover community operations, moderation, safety systems, decentralized governance, ActivityPub services, policy, digital inclusion, and the everyday care required to keep independent networks healthy.
Independent ownership matters because public exchange should not depend entirely on algorithmic feeds or the priorities of a single commercial platform. A durable shared space makes room for context, continuity, and knowledge that can compound over time.
Jaz-Michael King hosts the space and helps keep the exchange useful, welcoming, and grounded in the realities of building social infrastructure for different communities and local settings.
